EDEN
By Fran Kimmel
Sixteen-year-old Gracie thinks Harvey will give her a better life. Instead, she’s holed up in the middle of nowhere with a troubled man whose sister disappeared years ago. To escape, she finds refuge at a remote grocery store with the crotchety owner and his wounded sidekick. As Gracie slowly untangles the tragedy of Harvey, she learns that in facing life’s worst, she also uncovers its best.
Fran Kimmel is the award-winning author of short stories, plays for both theatre and radio, and the novels Cattail Lane, No Good Asking and The Shore Girl. Born and raised in Calgary, Fran now lives in Lacombe, where she leads Fiction Bootcamps and a years-long program called Brave New Writing. Fran’s play Eden has received a staged reading through Red Deer’s Breaking Cover Series and was a finalist for the 2025 Gwen Pharis Ringwood Award for Drama.
