The project is located in the residential area of Lakeview, an enclave of 70s era dwellings that back onto the Glenmore Reservoir in southwest Calgary.

With its simple plan, restrained use of materials, and precise detailing, the house achieves an elegant clarity and a rustic warmth.

Using Japanese and Scandinavian influences, the design of Livingstone comes together to produce a look that’s serene, organic and refined. The exterior is pared back with a simple building mass and muted tones to assimilate with its surroundings. A limited amount of glass facing the street provides privacy and gives the front exterior an introspective appearance.

A recessed partial second storey rests over a thin roof plane that projects over the ground floor. A sequence to a sheltered main entry is accessed via wide steps past a low garden wall that symbolizes arrival into a private domain. Acting as a threshold, it forms a territorial intersection between public and private.

Livingstone combines principles that are central to our design philosophy that underscores simplicity, conceptual elegance and beauty.
