Commercial rent relief is not what I or the taxpayers of this country need.
Commercial landlords either have a mortgage on the property in question for that property or as collateral for another investment, OR own the property outright. Lending companies and banks have all deferred mortgage payments but the current federal government decided on our behalf that we, small business, needed 75% of our rent subsidized. This actual infuriates me. All I would normally be paying would be the triple net fees associated with the lease and none of the direct rent itself as the landlord has passed that on to me as a tenant in good faith, which is about 25% of the total expense. However the government has decided to help me out by paying 75% of my rent.
How in world does this help ANYBODY out except the landlords!? All at the cost of our tax dollars. A smart landlord would keep the deferral in place and collect the government assistance top up and put money in the bank.
These politicians are so far removed from the real world and there is little to no understanding of real needs and are full of real stupidity. Oh and the months covered are April through June. I’m sorry, but we’ve all made it well past the beginning of April and we’re still here. If this was of any relevance it would start in May, not April.
When GST gats hiked up and Alberta ends up with a provincial sales tax and the costs of literally everything goes up remember the handouts our loyal government is dishing out.
