There are four idioms in the first picture. Do you know what they are? To end our lesson we will explore idioms and their meanings by reading through some books.
(My teacher likes to say, by Dennis Brennan-Nelsen, 2004)
“Do you have ants in your pants?”
my teacher like to say.
I’m not sure what she means,
But I like it anyway.
When I have ants in my pants
I squirm and wiggle and shout!
I jump up and down and twist around
‘til the ants in my pants fall out!
This idiom “ants in your pants” is a modern expression used to usually describe a wiggly child who is unable to sit still. In the seventeenth century, people would say, “Is there a gadfly in one’s breeches?”
Coming Monday night, we will be reading through some written texts with fascinating illustrations, depicting various idioms.
