a film in progress …
Support new q***r cinema!

How does this film project come to be?
Jeans comes from the2007 independent video: “Art Therapy”, as well as from the 2021 book of poetry “Timeline”.

Jeans is a fictional film in progress telling the journey of a poet named Jeans, who is dealing with memories from his past as an exotic performer and discerning a new way forward for his life in The City.

This film project applies visual poetry to the human necessity of introspection able to heal the past, discern present, and create a happier future.

Peaches' en su canción "I U She":
O George Michael en su canción "I Want Your S*x":
No te diré mentiras
No necesito ninguna biblia

ahora no te juzgaré, no me juzgues

“Soy hermosa a mi manera
solo ámate a ti mismo y estás listo

Music, Emotions, And Memories.
What is in The ArQuives? Music Collection
By Paco Corroy.
April 2016 - Oct 2018

Quizas la musica / perhaps music displays sounds that could make us feel the rhythm of a particular melody. Then, if a beat comes along with words or meaning it may evoke emotions in us, or it could bring back memories of special moments in our life like coming out , or our first kiss.
Perhaps some of us left home to be ourselves singing the lyrics of “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen: “Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth”. Maybe Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive”, or were thinking about our surroundings like in the song “Le Monde Est Stone/The World Is Stoned” by Fabienne Thibeault “:
“Don’t know if it is the earth spinning in reverse
or if it’s me making myself some cinema
making myself my own cinema”.

Music could also be part of our crushes, we may remember having a good time just by listening to a tune as it is expressed by k.D. Lang is her song “Constant Craving”:
“Maybe a great magnet pulls
All souls towards truth”.
Peaches’ in her song “I U She”:
“I don’t have to make the choice
I like girls and I like boys”,
Or George Michael in his song “I Want Your S*x”:
“I swear I won’t tease you
won’t tell you no lies
I don’t need no bible
just look in my eyes”.

Of course I am writing in general, assuming that we all may get emotions and /or memories with a good swing. I know that every one of us is unique and we all have our own way to connect with music, which is for me without a doubt, the perfect companion.
I am sharing these thoughts because I have been immersed working with the Music Collection in The ArQuives, enjoying the opportunity to learn about our community through melodies, beats, sounds, and lyrics.
For instance, I know now that some original songs from the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's have been making their way through our present times, I mean our new millennium, because their lyrics reveal LGBTQ2+’ sensibilities. Those tracks are now compilations in the disco dance albums: “Gay Happening” and “Glad To Be Gay” being released every year since the 90’s.
Original songs with q***r sensibilities also cross decades by belonging to movie's soundtracks like in the case of the 70’s Sylvester‘s song “You Make Feel (Mighty Real)” in the film Milk.
I also have learnt that recording artists love to make new versions of old goodies to be played by DJ’s in modern p***y lounges, gay bars, and clubs, like “I Was Born This Way” 1977 version by singer Carl Bean. This particular song reinforces Lady Gaga’s because it was a hit in the 70’s; decades prior to her hit and equally both songs use similar lyrics:

Carl Bean’s:
“I'm happy, I'm carefree, I'm gay, I was born this way
you're calling me strange 'cause you don't understand
God's role for me in life's overall plan.
I've learned to hold my head up high
not in scorn nor disgrace
doin' my thing so individually
entwined with this human race
now I won't judge you
don't you judge me
we're all the way nature meant us to be
I'm happy, I'm carefree, I'm gay I was born this way”
Lady Gaga’s:
“I'm beautiful in my way
'cause God makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track baby I was born this way
don't hide yourself in regret
Just love yourself and you're set
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way”

I would like to finish by reminding you that The ArQuives holds more than 1,281 records of LP’s, EP’s, Tapes, and CD’s from all genres (including q***r and rare material) that community members are donating. You can get access to The ArQuives music collection by booking a time saying what kind of material interests you. Staff will look for that material so it’s ready when you arrive. You can also drop in during public hours and somebody will help you to start planning your own research.
