First album in my new year’s resolution of moving away from streaming and buying the music on Friday is “My Anti-Aircraft Friend” by . This was my favourite album that I discovered in 2025. These days I feel more and more like good music isn’t being made at the same rate that it used to. Albums like these provide hope. I feel like Julie as a band adopts a similar ethos to Haunt the Stars in trying to wrap the music in an aesthetic identity. All their album art is done by their drummer, and they all feature this edgy, emo tumblr looking art. It’s usually not a style I’m drawn to, but I have to admit that the music matches so well with it. The music itself is also something I’m not as deep into as I want to be. Shoe-gaze has always been a genre that speaks to me on paper, but in practice feels a little disconnected and apathetic. Somehow, Julie glides right on the edge of what shoe-gaze is, while catering to my sensibilities enough for me to really dig it. Great record. Go listen! -PJ
