BOC holds the overnight rate at 5%

It was widely expected the BOC would hold its key rate steady with growing evidence that the last few rate hikes are slowing economic activity. We can expect this positive news to stimulate our market activity through the Fall.

Canada's inflation rate ticked up to 3.3 per cent in July from 2.8 per cent in the previous month. It is expected that inflation will stay around that 3% mark for months ahead before moving towards the BOC's 2% target.
