Jane Wartin sent me these beautiful photos of her nasturtiums! I love these showy beauties so much. They are a mix of our home grown seed đź’•
Jane says: I haven’t got beauty shots of my tomatoes but the nasturtiums demand compliments and I give them generously. They cascaded down and I think my yardmate rabbits have nibbled a bit....but the beautiful nasturtium remain. I watch it grow hour by hour! Around a stool and the handle of my plant food bucket! Thank you!
Thank you Jane! I love garden show and tell! Send me more folx! Your hard work deserves celebration!

I know fava beans aren’t for everyone. I also know they are a lot of work.
But this salad was everything summer promises to be.
These little gems were shelled, then hulled by soaking in hot water for 10 minutes. After that, they were dressed with fresh dill, parsley, shallots, a generous lug of olive oil, lemon juice, and flaky salt.
Simple. Fresh. Worth every minute of the work and begrudging soil prep back in march

I can’t say enough good things about our friends . Alex has helped us with a number of projects around the farm, including saving some beautiful oak trees from some decades of Ivy attack.
His knowledge is great, his care is thorough and he doesn’t waste time on stuff you don’t need to do
If you have any concerns about protecting your home, reducing fire risk, we highly recommend you reach out to him
Stage 4 drought on Vancouver Island is a serious wildfire warning.
Dry forests + dry grass + wind = fires that start easier and spread faster.
When conditions reach this level, even a small spark can become a major wildfire risk—especially around homes in forested and rural areas.
Embers are often what threaten homes first, igniting roofs, gutters, decks, wood piles, and dry landscaping before flames ever arrive.
At Ember Smart, led by a firefighter and forestry professional, we help homeowners reduce wildfire risk with practical, hands-on work:
• Wildfire risk assessments
• Vegetation management
• Tree pruning & removal
• Brush clearing & fuel reduction
• Basic property clean-up
• Fire planning & preparedness
If you live near forest or wildland, now is the time to act—not once smoke is in the air.
