I know it sounds sacreligious..
This type of move (short lunge) better than a back squat.. here’s why:
After 25 years in this game I’ve coached CrossFit, gymnastics, Olympic lifting, kettlebell training, and everything else i could dig my hands into.
The average athlete and average person (any age) is full of imbalances. Doing moves like back squats and deadlifts and even barbell bench as your main staples will only lead to more imbalance.
Im not saying they are the devil. Im saying doing them too much and as your main movement patterns will only lead to injury via imbalances.
I say 80-90% of your movement should be unilateral or single leg/arm movements. Add in some rotation and you’re flying.
If your goal is to play with your kids, grandkids, maintain sports in your older years - this is THE WAY.
