It's always ideal to starts with knowing who you are and what your brand does and stand for as well as understanding colors on a psychological level.

"Keyword" is one word that's greatly misunderstood in the online space.

Keyword simply are the words people put in the little Google search box to find something or get suggestions from Google.

Keyword isn't just a word. This is what most people don't know when they're creating their websites.

They assume just putting "cool shirt" in their website content writing is going to bring lots of traffic to their site...but what's missing in there is that we don't know what the person who's searching for "cool shirt" really wants.

Could they be looking for a "cool shirt" for funeral, or is it for a party? Are they looking for "cool shirt" for themselves or their cat? Are they even looking for "cool shirt" or wasn't auto corrections for Sushi?

Understanding the products and or service you provide and your target audience are very important factors in determining your keyword(s) for your website.

Remember, although it's called "keyword" it's not necessarily one word. As a matter of fact, good keyword are usually a phrase... Example of a smart keyword;

1) cool t-shirt for for dad
2) web design company Morningside
3) Lounge wear for parties

Do you get it?

Smart keywords are specific and most of time, they are not full sentences because when was the last time you typed a complete sentence in Google to find what you want?

Oh and don't forget the typos... They rank well.

So what I'm saying is that everything comes down to doing your research and being smart about your keyword selection. It can be time consuming but you don't have to do it all alone.

Have you heard of the 80/20 rule?

The rule "asserts that 80% of outcomes (or outputs) result from 20% of all causes (or inputs) for any given event."

I strongly the rule applies to everything including web design.

The benefit of the rule is that, it encourages you to focus on the most important things first.

Focus on the 20% of your website that really provide 80% of your web success.

I guess the question then becomes, what are the 20% inputs that result in 80% website outcomes?

I will dive in that another time. But for today, I want you to think about the little tweaks you can make to your website to make a great impact. Is it your headings, your images, you sentence structures? Or your actual design?

Think about it.
