What We Built Together
Before we talk about numbers, we want to talk about what was truly accomplished.
We built an engaged, informed, and courageous community.
We placed critical information on nearly every available doorstep in our riding.
We engaged thousands of residents who were previously unaware of what was happening.
We had meaningful conversations across neighbourhoods.
We activated citizens who had never participated in a political process before.
People who started as strangers knocked doors together — and finished as allies and friends.
Confidence grew.
New leaders emerged.
Civic literacy deepened.
That impact does not disappear when a campaign ends. It strengthens a community long-term.
In total, we gathered about 4,000 signatures.
While we did not meet the legislated threshold — a threshold widely regarded as extraordinarily high and nearly unattainable — more than 10% of our entire riding signed.
Under different legislation, that percentage would have constituted a successful citizen initiative.
Context matters.
This campaign unfolded under challenging conditions.
It began during the holiday season.
Access barriers limited where and how signatures could be collected.
There was misinformation intended to discourage participation.
Threats were directed at canvassers and local businesses, making indoor events impossible.
Freezing temperatures, snow, ice, and dark winter evenings became the norm.
And still — people showed up.
Volunteers stood outside for hours.
Canvassers knocked doors in the cold.
Station teams adapted and kept going.
Our admin team started as strangers connected by a shared belief in a better Alberta — with little to no experience running a campaign — and learned, adapted, organized, and led in real time. Just as importantly — the people who signed showed up too.
So did the people who donated funds, shared information, started hard conversations. Participation in any form required effort.
Time.
Energy.
Comfort.
Convenience.
Whether you volunteered, signed, donated, shared information, hosted materials, or encouraged someone else to participate — you sacrificed something to support this effort. That matters. This was never just about reaching a number. It was about proving that civic engagement is alive in our riding.
We built infrastructure.
We built relationships.
We built courage.
We built experience.
Those things do not disappear because a threshold was not met. They become the foundation for whatever comes next.
To every single person who participated in any way — thank you.
Campaigns may close. Deadlines may pass. But conviction does not fade because when ordinary citizens choose to show up together, community becomes power.
