Happy Canada Day from Saigon Maxim!
Today, as we celebrate Canada Day, we pause to reflect on what this country truly means to us as a multi-generational Canadian Vietnamese family. Whether you know or not, our story began in Saigon, Vietnam - a tradition with deep roots. In the early 1980's, our family immigrated to Canada seeking safety, opportunity, and a better future. Canada welcomed us with open arms, offering the freedom, stability, and chance to build something lasting that we cherish deeply.
Being Canadian Vietnamese means carrying the rich traditions, flavors, and warmth of our Vietnamese heritage while fully embracing Canadian values of kindness, diversity, inclusion, and community. It means gratitude for the opportunities this great nation has given us - from raising families here to growing a small family business into a beloved part of Calgary’s fabric across Riverbend our newest location in Mission (4th Street SW). Canada Day reminds us that we are not just residents but proud contributors to this multicultural mosaic, where our differences enrich everyone.
At Saigon Maxim, this spirit guides everything we do. Our family recipes - like our traditional slow-cooked phở broth made with premium ingredients and passed down through generations - are prepared with pride and served with heart. We see our restaurant not just as a place to eat, but as a bridge: a welcoming space where Vietnamese authenticity meets Canadian hospitality. Every bowl, every smile, every interaction is our way of giving back to the community that has given us so much.
We value every person we serve - our loyal customers, neighbors, families with strollers, hardworking teams, and newcomers alike. Our goal is simple yet heartfelt: to be of genuine value to you by delivering authentic excellence in every dish, using time-honored methods and fresh, quality ingredients. Warm, attentive service that makes you feel at home, following our “Figure 8 Standard” and Five Golden Rules so no one is overlooked. A caring environment where feedback is welcomed, mistakes are made right (with refunds, free meals, or loyalty offers when needed), and every visit leaves you happier than when you arrived. Community connection through sponsorships, neighborly support (like our recent contributions to the Rideau Roxboro Neighbor Day Summer Party), and creating a space that brings people together.
On this Canada Day, we are especially thankful for all of you who have supported our family legacy. Thank you for allowing us to share our culture and stories through food and service. As we continue growing with exciting plans to share with you - we remain committed to the same principles that brought our family here: hard work, honesty, redemption through service, and building meaningful relationships.
Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful, safe, and delicious Canada Day! Come celebrate with us - whether it’s a comforting bowl of phở or something fresh from the menu. We look forward to welcoming you soon.
With gratitude and warmth,
Saigon Maxim
