Been quiet for a bit. This weekend was exactly what we needed. A little Montana reset. 🤍
she gets it from me, unfortunately for both of us 🤍
the right losses save you from the wrong wins. nobody told me that when i started selling real estate 15 years ago. 🤍
early in my career i chased a client and a deal that cost me more than i can explain. time. energy. confidence. i lost sleep over it. i questioned everything. when it was finally over i realized i had spent months on something that was never going to be right no matter what i did.
you’re going to be told the houses matter. they don’t. the people do. you’re going to chase deals that don’t deserve you. you’re going to want to win every offer. you won’t, and some of those losses will be the best thing that ever happened to you. you’re going to think you have to know everything. you don’t. you have to listen.
the career you think you’re starting is not the career you’ll have.
15 years later. wish i’d told myself sooner.
and to the realtors watching — what would you tell your younger self? drop it below. I want to read every one.
What are you sitting on? 🤍
This year mine were pulling my kids out of school, saying yes to building a tech company while keeping the real estate business I love, and a couple of other things I’m not ready to talk about yet. Every one of them sat in my head for months. The day I said them out loud things started to move.
Tell me yours in the comments. You don’t have to act on it. Sometimes saying it out loud is enough to start.
Ownivo launches in August. Comment OWNIVO and I’ll send you the link.
The reason we’re homeschooling in September is sitting right here. She’s been right about that one too. 🤍
She’s been asking for two years. 🤍
My oldest started asking to be homeschooled when she was nine. Every time she asked, I had a reason it wasn’t the right time. When I actually sat down and looked at the reasons, none of them were about her. They were about me.
If your kid is asking for something and you keep saying no, it might be worth asking yourself why. ✨
Same rules. Different chapters. 🤍
15 years in this job has taught me that the right thing rarely arrives on your timeline. Buying a house, building a family, building a business. Same lesson every time. If you’re in Calgary and looking for the right one, DM me.
He’s never safe. Neither is Winston. 🦤
A few months before I knew I was going to homeschool, the company I’m building was already being built for me.
My business partner Jerin and I had been building something together since November. He’s been building enterprise software for 20 years. He started looking at where AI is taking education and saw a gap. He came back to me with a concept he’d done a feasibility study on. That’s when Ownivo was born.
Then in January I decided to homeschool. Suddenly the tool he was building wasn’t theoretical anymore. It was the exact tool I was going to need for my own family. We shifted everything to focus on it.
Ownivo is built for the way kids actually learn, starting with homeschool families. The everyday stuff. Conversations. Projects. Field trips. Rabbit holes. Without the busywork.
We’re launching publicly in August. A month before my girls start.
Comment OWNIVO and I’ll send you the link to be first ✨
The first time I told my husband I wanted to homeschool, he laughed.
He thought I was joking.
This was early January. At dinner I told him I wanted to pull the girls out of school. He laughed. I said I was serious. He said how? You have a real estate business. You’re too busy.
I dropped it for three weeks. Then I brought it up again. Same dinner table. This time he didn’t laugh. He looked at me and said let’s do it.
Our friends Val and Jerin in Florida planted the seed years ago, watching their kids be curious and confident. My oldest Lola started asking. I kept saying maybe one day.
Then last fall things started adding up. The strike. The wake-up battles. The feeling something wasn’t working.
By January maybe one day became we’re doing this.
We’re homeschooling in September. I don’t have it all figured out. But once we both knew, we both knew.
