What if drawing convincing portraits felt less complicated because you understood the structure beneath every face?

In Portrait and Head Drawing Made Simple, Master Artist and Mentor Rose Irelan () will guide artists through the classical foundations that create confident, dimensional, and accurately proportioned portraits.

Portrait drawing can feel overwhelming when you are trying to place every feature correctly. By learning how the head is constructed, and how light describes its form, you can approach each drawing with a clearer plan.

You’ll learn to:
✏️ Understand how light and shadow create three-dimensional form
✏️ Use the proportions of the human head to place features accurately
✏️ Break the head into planes for stronger structure and dimension
✏️ Explore Riley Rhythms to connect the features naturally
✏️ Draw facial features with greater confidence and control

Each session begins with an interactive demonstration from Rose, followed by dedicated time to work on your own portrait drawing using charcoal and Conté pencil. You’ll also be able to share your progress with the group between sessions in MastriusChat.

Join Rose this summer and discover how understanding structure, proportion, and light can make portrait drawing feel more approachable, and much more rewarding.
