🧅 Onion lovers - we have some great news for you…

🧅 QUERCETIN - a plant pigment, is the subject of much scientific chatter, emerging in research as playing a key role in human health.

🧅 We’ll get into those in a second. Among fruits + veg, its content is highest in the ONION!

🧅 It’s been long known that quercetin is a potent antihistamine and antioxidant, but it has a very interesting ability to chelate zinc, acting as a “zinc ionophore”, to transport zinc across a cell membrane.

🧅 What’s the big deal? Zinc is a heavy hitter in immune biochemistry.

🧅 Research confirms zinc’s role in the inhibition of RNA binding + synthesis, as well as viral protease enzyme inactivation (these are only a few of its functions!)

🧅 By helping to increase intracellular zinc concentrations, polyphenols such as quercetin offer a way for us to support our body for wellness.

Who loves onions???

Good vibes + great eats!

We’re super into charcuterie boards lately. They don’t have to be all meat…quite the opposite!

It’s an awesome way to explore new flavours with the kids. Get creative, use up what you have in your fridge and make it beautiful…

Some of our fav things to enjoy:

- meat selections from .co
- raw cheese (my family digs all sorts of stinky, sharp cheese. Not my thing. But I try a wee bit)
- fermented carrots + beets
- olives
- grain free almond flour crackers
- chicken liver pâté
- soaked and roasted nuts/seeds
- dried fruit (apricots are our fav)
- organic candied ginger

Last night we had some live jazz going on in the background with Z on sax and Q on piano…we keep it super casual on charcuterie nights, often playing cards while eating.

Perfect.Friday.Night.

Bring back the FUN with food.

AWESOME, practical advice from our great friends over

“Getting more nourishment into our littles (and ourselves) is top priority in our home. Here are some of the super simple ways in which we do it:

💛 Add spiralina or a greens powder to our morning smoothie
💛 Add medicinal mushrooms, collagen peptides and colostrum to our daily Chocobroth elixirs
💛 Enjoy a big mug of bone broth with a squeeze of lemon, grassfed butter & mineral salt, or chili oil if we’re feeling spicy!
💛 Enjoy bone broth soup loaded with veggies for any (or all) meals of the day
💛 Make a 4 litre jar of antioxidant-rich tea in the morning to have on hand for daily sipping
💛 Microplane raw garlic straight into homemade toasted sourdough bread
💛 Eat avocados
💛 Offer fruit & veggies first
💛 Cook with lots of fresh & dried herbs & spices
💛 Enjoy healthy fats as our bodies desire
💛 Purchase from local farmers
💛 Prepare & enjoy our food mindfully & with thanks

How do y’all nourish yourselves and your family?!”

When your path crosses with awesome people and you stay connected, despite the twists + turns of life, you know you have found your people.

When these guys reunite it’s laughter for days…

And some pretty wild conversations about life too…

Grateful for this crew.

Friends are worth the effort. It’s good for your health.

This photo. These words 🤍. Thank you

“Spring -
It won’t melt till it’s ready to.
It won’t bud till it’s ready to.
It won’t bear fruit till it’s ready to.
So we surrender to its
timing.
Welcoming it to just
Be.
Finding beauty in its unfolding
and ask it to be our
teacher.
Radical acceptance for what is
Knowing Good is always at its door

The middle is always hard,
when you know what could be.
But the journey is meant to be there.
Strengthening you, loving you,
Becoming you.

Don’t give up.”

One of our kiddos is out with a broken foot so we’ve taken up a new hobby - chocolate making 🍫. Every evening we try a new creation from “Chocolate Life”, a new book by

I picked mine up from here in YYC.

Tonight we attempted to “temper” our chocolate, the art of heating + cooling to create a stable finished product.

We have a ways to go to dial it in, but I gotta say we’re not upset about having to try it again 😉. And again.

“The body is a self-curing mechanism, and it will maintain its efficiency provided it has a normal supply of all those elements particular to its own substance.” Eric Powell.

Gentle therapies such as tissue salts and nutrition often surprise people in how profoundly they support the body in healing.

Remember the body knows what its doing. Healing does not have to be taught or forced, it’s the nature of being human.

Shifting our mindset to welcome the idea of working WITH, not against, our body is key.

🫐Arctic Wild Bilberry
(Vaccinium myrtillus)

We’re trying this extraordinary dark blue powder and LOVING it…

Today I’m enjoying it with ground flax and berries.

Bilberry has a crazy high ORAC (antioxidant capacity) and is used to support eye health, circulation + the nervous system.

It’s super delicious and for those of you that love fruit smoothies (I’m not one of those people, wish I was), this would be an easy addition!

We get it 🤍.

M A C A + you

This medicinal root is an easy addition to your elixirs (I 🤍 it with chocolate) - offering an earthy, gentle balancing energy for your kidney + spleen meridians (think digestion, stress, hormones - lots of good stuff!)

Some other cool things about MACA:

- it has been studied and shown to stimulate positive changes in the hypothalamic-pituitary axis (supportive of both fertility + menopause )

- it’s a source of B2, B6, Niacin, iron, zinc, iodine, calcium, magnesium and potassium

- unique biochemicals called macamides benefit our brain via our endocannabinoid system. Less brain fog + mental clarity…yes please!

*caution if you have hormone responsive cancers, are pregnant or nursing. Ask your practitioner if you have questions about whether adding in maca is an option for you.

Happy Wednesday!
