If you purchase a logo through a professional designer (no shade), make sure:
1. They give you the designer file (.ai, .eps, .svg, .pdf)
2. They give you (.pngs and .jpgs) of your logo. You should have both!
3. They should give you several variations of your logo. The original logo, submark, wordmark, and favicon
4. They should give you your logo with different color variations. You should be able to place it on a dark and light background. Have them invert the colors.
This is all a part of branding your business and people recognizing your company consistently in varied placements. Every brand needs a set of unique logo designs to use on several platforms that are recognizable, versatile, and complement its overall identity.
