FULL VIDEO!!!! Here it is, the ENTIRE process of the Merzly La Catrina mask in one long long video!! This is an attention span check for sure but I hope you enjoy watching the process and I’m honoured to paint for such an amazing athlete and share what I do with such a supportive fan base! For this design Elvis wanted a La Catrina / Day of the Dead theme with red white and blue roses to match the team logo. I decided I didn’t want to do the standard girl with the face paint look, but rather I would make it look like a girl and a skull combined, and rather than all the flowers and designs painted on, to make it look like sculpted filigree. For the logos we made them 3D and textured, I wanted to make them look like they were props that could be worn in the hats, mixed in with the flowers. There are also some cool textures in the straw hat brims and the skirting around the ribcage, which are bordered with beads and string. These also have a lot of good movement, giving the whole mask a nice flow to the overall design! The cage we painted with a smooth fade, from the soft blue of the faces to the dark blue in the logo. We also added custom straps, these I made to match the blue jackets logo. I think my favourite part of the design is how colorful it is and how bold the colors are. My boy has been GREAT to work with in this and so excited for it and yet patient, can’t wait to work with him again on another mask in the future!! Hope ya dig it friends!!
