Closed out a busy year with a backsplash project. The homeowner Cyndi loved it and asked to have here fireplace surround switched out, a then potentially a mantle.
She expressed an interest in live edge as a favourite choice, without visible brackets. I was able to source a beautiful piece of Wenge (weng-e), a hardwood grown in Southern Africa, and machined it to the proper size. A hidden wall bracket was machined into the back of the mantle, and it was finished with a clear Danish Oil.
Cyndi was such a fun client, I decided to gift her a charcuterie board that we made from some hardwood scrap, some Wenge leftover to tie in with the Mantle, and a food safe finish. She was tickled.
