Our RN Lejla breaks down why the CO2 laser is the glow-up treatment your skin has been waiting for, and how one of our patients saw a major reduction in deep acne scarring after just ONE session. Pictures included! CO2 isn’t your average treatment, it resurfaces at a deeper level, targeting stubborn scarring that other treatments simply can’t reach.
If you’ve been on a long skincare journey with little results, this one’s for you. 💛

Menopause + smoking = increased risk. During perimenopause and menopause, your body is already adjusting to lower estrogen levels. Smoking can make that transition harder.

🔥 It can worsen hot flashes.
🦴 It accelerates bone loss and increases fracture risk.
❤️ It significantly raises your risk of heart disease, especially after menopause.

Hormonal changes naturally increase bone and cardiovascular risk. Smoking compounds it. While smoking is not a contraindication to hormone therapy, physicians strongly advise quitting.

The good news? Quitting at any age improves circulation, protects your bones, and lowers heart risk.

Menopause can be a powerful time to reset and prioritize your long-term health. 💛 Both of our locations offer dedicated menopause clinics to help guide women through this transformative stage.

Not all sunscreens offer the same level of protection. To ensure your skin is properly protected, dermatology experts recommend choosing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, meaning it protects against both UVA (aging rays) and UVB (burning rays). Daily use is essential, even on cloudy days in Calgary and Okotoks.

It’s also important to understand the difference between mineral and chemical sunscreens. Mineral (physical) sunscreens, containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, sit on the skin’s surface and reflect UV rays. They are often recommended for sensitive, acne-prone, or post-procedure skin because they are less likely to cause irritation. Chemical sunscreens, on the other hand, absorb UV radiation and convert it into heat before it damages the skin. They tend to feel lighter on application but may be irritating for some individuals.

No sunscreen works if it’s not applied correctly. Most adults need about two finger-lengths for the face and a shot-glass amount for the body, with reapplication every two hours when outdoors. Proper application, the right formulation, and consistent use are what truly protect your skin.
