Setting this up is easy when nothing's wrong. Once something shows up, it's a different conversation.

The people who did it young didn't do it because they were worried. They did it because it was the simple time to.

Tips, commission, contract work. The money can be great. But it only shows up the weeks you actually do.

A salaried person loses a week and barely feels it. You lose the whole cheque.

Nearly half of us will face cancer at some point.

And here in Alberta the treatment is covered. That part's handled.

What nobody plans for is the months you can't work while you're getting through it.

The mortgage doesn't pause. The bills don't wait til you feel better.

The treatment being covered and your life being covered are two different things.

Talked to a hair stylist who couldn't answer one question.

Rents her own chair, books all her own people, doing well for herself.

I asked what happens to the money if her hand stops working for a couple months. She didn't have an answer.

Here's the thing. When you work for yourself the income stops the day you do. Nobody behind you keeping it going.

Most people don't look at that part until they're already in it.
