💧 Water Restored – Another Successful Water Main Repair! 💧

After several long days, some very late nights, and a lot of teamwork, we’re happy to say the water has been successfully restored to this apartment building.

This wasn’t a simple repair. The project involved excavating and replacing a damaged section of the water main, installing new piping and fittings, coordinating with the City, and ensuring everything was completed safely and correctly.

One of the most important parts of this job happened at the very end. We had the opportunity to pressurize the line early, but the concrete thrust block hadn’t reached its recommended curing time. Rather than rush the job and risk a future failure, we recommended allowing the concrete to cure properly. The customer agreed, and we completed the restoration the right way.

When we first assessed the job, we estimated water would be restored by Friday. Thanks to the hard work of everyone involved, we were able to complete the work ahead of schedule and have the system ready on Thursday.

A special thank you to the residents for their patience throughout the repair. We know being without water is never easy, and we appreciate your understanding while we worked to restore service safely.

I’d also like to thank Jake, Jordan, Jules, our excavation team, the sprinkler contractors, and everyone else who helped make this repair a success. These jobs only get done when everyone pulls together.

At Rusty Pipe Mechanical, our goal is simple: do the job once, do it right, and never compromise quality for speed.

Another successful emergency repair in the books.

Monday’s Job – Water Main Break

Here’s what we’re tackling Monday morning.

This water main break is located right in front of the building entrance. As you can see from the photos, access isn’t exactly ideal. We’ll have to remove part of the concrete curb and dig down inside this landscaped area to reach the broken water line. It’s going to be a challenging excavation with very little room to work.

Today is all about planning and coordination:

* Contacting the City of Calgary to arrange the water shutoff.
* Coordinating with the excavator on timing and access.
* Making sure all materials and equipment are ready.
* Scheduling the crew.
* Preparing for traffic control and site safety.
* Getting everything lined up so we can hit the ground running first thing Monday morning.

Jobs like this remind people that plumbing isn’t always changing a faucet or unplugging a drain. Sometimes it’s heavy civil work, excavation, coordination with the city, and a lot of planning before the first shovel even hits the ground.

Hopefully everything goes smoothly Monday. I’ll post some progress pictures once we get the hole opened up and see exactly what we’re dealing with.
