FAILURE – SENTENCE OF DOOM OR CATALYST FOR GROWTH?
Our society today teaches that failing is a horrible thing, right?
It’s reached the point where even in schools they have gone as far as to say teachers should no longer “fail” students because it lowers self esteem.
In sporting activities children are getting “participating certificates” rather than awarding the winners based on who is the top performer.
And they wonder why self esteem is becoming lower? Isn’t it because they are discouraging top performance and encouraging mediocrity?
A better solution would be to continue encouraging and awarding top performers and rather than ridiculing the “loosers”- they pull them aside and counsel them. Ask them what did you learn from this loss? What can you do next time to improve?
Let us start teaching our children to FAIL PROFESSIONALLY and use failures as a catalyst for growth!
