My soul clings to the dust; revive me according to Your Word.
My soul melts from heaviness; strengthen me according to Your Word.
Psalm 119:25&28

The Psalmist was no stranger to hard times. Read again the imagery he uses.

My soul clings to the dust.
The picture is that of sorrow and grief.
It’s not that dust is clinging to him but rather he is clinging to the dust. You don’t get much lower than this.

My soul melts from heaviness.
Weighted and burdened, even the slightest sense of endurance under pressure has been eroded.

In this place of sorrow and grief, with no strength of his own, he knows enough to turn to God’s Word.

God’s Word has the ability to revive his soul. Revival is different than having a spiritual awakening. To revive something is to bring it back to life. It’s not a start; it’s a recovery.
If the spiritual life you once had has slipped away in the face of sorrow and grief, allow God’s Word to breathe new life in you today.

Has your soul melted from the heavy burdens of life? Sometimes it’s not just one big burden but a seemingly endless supply of one weight after another until the proverbial straw breaks the camels back. Allow God’s Word to lift the burden and fill you with hope and joy.

Take a few moments and start reading through this entire Psalm. It is the longest chapter in the Bible. Structured so beautifully in the style of Hebrew poetry, allow your heart to be strengthened and lifted as God’s Word washes over you today.
