In the 1970’s Malagousia was thought to be extinct until a University professor rediscovered it and his students went forward cultivating Malagousia vinea. Today it’s considered a world class grape and the most internationally recognized white grape from Greece. The wines tend to have peach notes with floral undertones, similar to Viognier. Like most Greek wines, there is a distinct herbal, savoury quality to the wine as well that allows it to pair so well with the bold flavours of their cuisine.
