This is one of the most important parts of any bathroom renovation, and most people never see it. Before any tile goes in, the space has to be properly waterproofed.

On this project, we took the time to make sure everything behind the tile is fully protected:

- Proper substrate prep
- Waterproofing system (Schluter) installed correctly
- All seams and transitions sealed

This is the difference between a bathroom that lasts… and one that develops issues down the road.

A lot of problems like:

- Leaks
- Mold
- Tile failure

Come from shortcuts at this stage. It’s not the most exciting part visually, but it’s one of the most critical.

What separates a renovation that lasts from one that doesn’t?

It’s not the finishes, it’s everything that happens before them.

On this bathroom renovation, once demo was complete, the focus shifted to getting the space properly prepped before moving forward.

That means:

- Making sure everything is structurally sound
- Prepping surfaces properly for tile and finishes
- Planning each step so nothing gets rushed or missed

This part of the job doesn’t get much attention, but it’s where the quality of the entire renovation is decided. Anyone can make a bathroom look good at the end, but making sure it stays that way is a different story.
