Soft Revolution with Carrots

Miniscule rebellions by 2Peaz Artist Collective. artist and have been working on a series of works that will be on display downtown. The exhibition is on from December 1 – 31.

We’ve been cooking recipes with local carrots and making art along the way.

1. Scarlet Nantes and Dragon carrots grown in Calgary

2. Recipe testing – we tested and chose recipes for meals throughout the day...all that use carrots. We look for nutritious, delicious, low cost and easy to make recipes. This is Carrot Soup with Lemon-Tahini and Chickpeas

3. Paper pulp from Cookbooks - we think cooking from scratch is one way to push back against the corporate food system. Using cookbooks to create paper pulp seems like a perfect connection

4. The experiments – using the pulp from cookbooks to cast cooking utensils used in the cooking process

5. A successful recipe – we cooked and blended and massaged and coerced the pulp in a variety of experiments until we found the result we were looking for. Artmaking, like cooking, is a development of skills with both successes (that can be delicious) and disappointment (try, try, again)

6. The mixed-media collages – we make prints from the food scraps created when cooking our recipes.
Then we make backgrounds using other recipe ingredients such as spices, vinegar, sugar, etc. The prints
are collaged on the backgrounds and watercolour paint added. We work collaboratively on this process
as we create several layers until we have a complete composition
