Today was a big day for Duckie! It was her first training class since she graduated Puppy Club (she finished that class months before she even turned 1) and she jumped right back into learning like she never left.

It was also her first time really playing in the water. Instead of just wading in up to her knees, she gained the confidence to splash, explore, and enjoy herself. Watching her try something new at her own pace was just as rewarding as the training itself.

One thing I strongly believe is that trainers should never stop being students. Attending other trainers’ classes gives us fresh perspectives, new ideas, and opportunities to continue developing our own skills while giving our dogs valuable learning experiences. No one knows everything, and there’s always something new to learn.

The Summer Off Leash Lab helded by Dogma Training is a fantastic way to build on your dog’s foundation in a fun, real-world environment. Today’s class focused on offered attention, recalls, check-ins, and helping our dogs become more aware of where we are while they’re off leash. These skills create a dog that chooses to stay connected with you, even when there’s plenty of excitement around them.

Training doesn’t end after puppy classes—it grows with your dog. Whether you’re a first-time dog owner or a professional trainer, continuing your education benefits both ends of the leash.
