A week ago, Owen was living under a deck with his mom and 5 siblings. We are so glad Owen came to us when he did because he’s got a battle ahead. We knew Owen was a special little guy when he came because he is literally half the size of his siblings. Typically, that just means he’s a runt. But as we kept a watchful eye on Owen we noticed he started having breathing issues. We suspected pneumonia at first but as we examined closer we became concerned it was something more. We rushed him to our vet today to learn he has pericardial effusion likely from a congenital issue- which this means he has fluid that is surrounding his heart. The vet was able to remove some of the fluid to try to ease his breathing for the time being. Owen needs a specialist and will be headed to NC State Veterinary tomorrow for further evaluation. Owen was named quickly today when his vet appointment was made, but Owen means ‘young warrior’ and he’s just that!
