When you join us in Asian Highlands, the first chapter of Imagine Asia, you might notice some impressive boulders in our brand-new Sichuan takin habitat. 🪨
Do they look familiar? They were part of the former Japanese macaque habitat! 🤯 Thanks to the incredible efforts of our Facilities and Project Management teams, along with our amazing contractors, these boulders found a new purpose as enriching features in the takin habitat.
Sichuan takin are expert climbers, with cloven hooves specially adapted for navigating steep, rocky terrain. Watching them show off these natural behaviours totally rocks, and we're grateful to everyone who helped design and build spaces where wildlife can thrive. 🫶

We have something un-bear-lievably cool to show you – black bear target training! 🐻
What’s target training? Target training is a voluntary training session that helps animals in our care build trust with their dedicated care teams and make future routine health procedures like weight checks, injections, or visual inspections safe and stress-free. 🫶
During this voluntary training session, our male black bear ‘Orson’ worked with Animal Care Technician Kelsey to practice behaviours like showing his paws, standing, and opening his mouth. Each time Orson performed the requested behaviour, he was rewarded with a delicious produce snack or a lick of yummy lactose-free yogurt, reinforcing trust and the positivity of such training. 😋
