*Something which i am going to try soon
Homemade Dishwasher Tablets β€” Eco-Friendly, Effective, and Cheap 🫧One batch costs under $2 and makes 30+ tablets. Here's what actually works and why the technique matters. The recipe:
β€” 1 cup washing soda (sodium carbonate β€” not baking soda)
β€” Β½ cup citric acid
β€” Β½ cup coarse or kosher salt
β€” 1–2 tbsp water or white vinegar (added last, drop by drop)
β€” Optional: 15 drops lemon or orange essential oil for scentWhy technique matters:
Washing soda is alkaline. Citric acid is acidic. Mixed dry, they stay stable and functional. The moment significant water contacts both together, they begin to neutralize each other. This is why the liquid binder must be added in drops β€” just enough to hold the mixture together when pressed β€” and the tablets must be pressed and dried immediately. The process:

Combine washing soda, citric acid, and salt in a bowl. Mix thoroughly while dry.
Add liquid binder drop by drop, stirring constantly. Stop the moment the mixture holds its shape when squeezed. It will fizz slightly β€” this is normal.
Press approximately 1 tablespoon of mixture firmly into each silicone ice cube mold.
Let air dry completely β€” 24 to 48 hours. The tablets must be fully hardened before storing.
Unmold and store in an airtight glass jar away from moisture. Any humidity will trigger the reaction in storage.
Usage:
One tablet per regular load in the main detergent dispenser. For hard water or heavy loads, add a tablespoon of washing soda to the pre-wash compartment. What goes wrong:
Using baking soda instead of washing soda β€” baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is significantly less alkaline and far less effective at cutting grease. Washing soda (sodium carbonate) is the active ingredient. They are not interchangeable. 🏠
