Last week was a quiet week for real estate and housing issues in Burnaby. Unfortunate to see some of the wider trends in housing affecting new developments in the city.

A new year means a new focus for the Eyes on Council blog. I’ll still be covering the housing issues at Burnaby City Council, but you can expect more of my own thoughts about what’s going on.
The first meeting of the year was a short but very busy session, with a lot of detailed analysis of upcoming non-residential zoning and the complex and supportive housing project on Imperial.

Lots happening in Burnaby right now. Small scale multi unit housing has been a big focus of the local agenda and was discussed again earlier this week. Read more @ https://eyesoncouncil.substack.com/p/december-9th-burnaby-city-council

Really happy to see Team ADW this week in Abbotsford, and by chance we ended up playing each other. Happy to see the guys and best of luck at their next events!

Very sorry that I’m late with this week’s Eyes on Council. This week was a short special council meeting, but there was a lot to get through regarding small scale multi-unit housing. These upcoming changes could have a big impact on housing construction in the city.

It's time for another Eyes on Council post. This week I'm looking at the October 28th Council meeting, and as usual there's a lot happening with housing in the City of Burnaby.

This is amazing to see, very excited that the Burnaby Housing Authority has announced their first two rental projects. Looking forward to seeing what comes next.
The Burnaby Housing Authority (which I sit as a council representative on the board) is excited to announce our first two projects that will create 387 rental homes. Our goal as a housing authority is to provide as many affordable family units as possible. Out of the 387 units, 183 will be a mix of affordable and market rental ground oriented townhomes. The level of affordability will be determined and announced closer to completion.
This is just the beginning and we know as a municipality and a region, we need more affordable housing. This will take collaboration from all levels of governments and as a Housing Authority, we will be bold and ambitious in delivering much needed homes for families and residents.
