Even when life feels like a storm of negativity swirling around us—when problems seem endless, people’s words weigh heavily, and circumstances test our patience—it is important to look for even the smallest rays of positivity. Just as a lighthouse safely guides ships through the roughest seas, a positive attitude can guide our minds through difficult times. It’s not about ignoring problems, but about focusing on solutions, lessons, and the moments of kindness that still exist. Positivity is like an anchor for the heart: it keeps us steady when everything else is shaking. When we choose to see the good, we give ourselves hope, and hope has the power to calm even the strongest storms.

The latest TRREB market update for May 2025 shows a mixed picture for the GTA housing market. Sales volume reached 6,244 homes, marking a 13.3% drop compared to May 2024, while new listings surged 14% year-over-year to 21,819 — giving buyers more options. The average selling price dipped 4% annually to $1,120,879, and the MLS® HPI Composite Benchmark declined by 4.5%, reflecting a cooling in overall pricing trends. However, on a seasonally adjusted month-over-month basis, the market showed signs of subtle momentum: sales increased for the second consecutive month, and although new listings also rose, they did so at a slower pace — indicating a mild tightening of conditions. Encouragingly, both the average price and the MLS® HPI edged up compared to April, suggesting early signs of price stability heading into the summer.

The Government of Canada has announced a significant increase in the Canada Child Benefit to help families cope with the rising cost of living. Effective for the 2024-2025 benefit year, the maximum annual benefit will rise to $7,787 per child under age 6 and $6,570 for children aged 6 through 17, marking a 4.7 percent increase from last year. This adjustment, announced by the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, and Brenda Shanahan, MP for Châteauguay–Lacolle, on the eighth anniversary of the benefit, ensures that the extra, tax-free money helps cover essential expenses like groceries and rent. The update, part of a broader effort to support Canadian families, also ties into the nationwide early learning and child care system and the upcoming Canadian Dental Care Plan, aimed at reducing living costs and promoting equality.

Before we speak, it is wise to let our words pass through three gates of reflection: truth, necessity, and kindness. First, we should ask ourselves if what we are about to say is true, for honesty builds trust and integrity, while falsehoods can harm and mislead. Next, we must consider if our words are necessary, are they adding value, solving a problem, or contributing positively to the conversation? Speaking unnecessarily can lead to confusion or detract from meaningful dialogue. Finally, we should evaluate if our words are kind, for kindness fosters connection, empathy, and understanding, whereas harsh or thoughtless remarks can wound deeply. By consciously applying these principles, we cultivate communication that uplifts, enlightens, and strengthens relationships.

TD Bank has pleaded guilty to violating federal anti-money laundering laws, making it the largest bank in U.S. history to do so. The bank will pay over $3 billion in penalties for its failure to address compliance issues over a decade, during which it allegedly facilitated transactions for high-risk customers, including criminal networks involved in drug sales. U.S. authorities have also imposed an asset cap, limiting TD's ability to expand in the U.S. until its compliance improves.

In response, TD Bank has fired staff, clawed back executive compensation, and appointed Ray Chun as its new CEO to manage the fallout. The bank’s reputation and stock have been severely impacted, with recovery expected to take years. This case serves as a warning to other banks about the importance of adhering to regulatory standards.
