Male fruit flies that are rejected by females are more likely to consume alcohol when it's available.

This behavior was observed in a study published in 2012 in the journal Science.

Researchers found that the rejected males showed a preference for alcohol-laced food, while those that mated successfully didn't seek out alcohol as much.

The reason behind this appears to be linked to a neuropeptide called neuropeptide F (NPF), which is similar to neuropeptide Y (NPY) in humans.

Rejected males had lower levels of NPF, and alcohol seemed to raise it, suggesting the flies were essentially self-medicating to relieve the effects of rejection.

It’s a pretty wild example of how reward systems and emotional-like states might be evolutionarily conserved even in tiny flies.
