Emerald Pools

It's finally pool opening season! Just a quick reminder that if you haven't changed your filter sand in the last 3-4 years this is the best time to change your sand and give your filter a thorough inspection. The picture below shows a stand pipe from a customers pool that had a slight crack that was difficult to detect. Thankfully our trained staff noticed it and it was replaced, it was not an expensive repair, if it hadn't been detected the filter would not be very effective. Have your pool filter sand changed and have the internals inspected this spring. This is affordable and will ensure your pool filter functions as designed through the summer so you can enjoy time with family and friends instead of trying to figure out why your pool is breeding algae and not cleaning properly. The second picture shows new sand on top of the old sand that has lost its effectiveness and ability to filter pool water, you can see the difference in colour and coarseness.

At Emerald Pools we enjoy nothing more than building beautiful pools for our customers to have as a backdrop for years of making memories. However, from time to time we are asked to decommission an existing inground pool. This may sound like a very straight forward task. It requires specific steps to be carried out properly to ensure the area where the pool was located is just as it was prior to having the pool. You cant simply remove the water and fill it in with sand or clean fill. Responsible practices such as recycling as much of the pool as possible, removing all plastic and vinyl, breaking the concrete bottom to allow the water to permeate, introducing the proper material to fill the void and doing this slowly and compacting it as you go. Having a licensed contractor remove, or otherwise deal with, all electrical and gas connections. If you ever decide you no longer want your inground pool and wish to regain the outdoor space, give us a call, we would be happy to provide a quote or simply provide some advice on the proper way to carry this project out.
