Choosing a contractor isn’t just about who looks the best online. Immediate availability or relying only on Facebook recommendations can both be reasons to slow down and ask more questions.
Google reviews and social media can be helpful, but in today’s market, polished content doesn’t always reflect real experience. What matters more is a proven portfolio of real projects, a clear process, industry involvement, and a commitment to continued education and current building practices.
At the end of the day, renovations are built on trust. You’re entering into a relationship that can last months, so it’s important to work with someone you feel comfortable communicating with, confident in how they approach decisions, and reassured by how they handle challenges.

Last night at the CHBA BC Georgie Awards was an incredible evening celebrating the craftsmanship, creativity, and dedication within our industry.
We are grateful to have had projects recognized as finalists alongside so many talented builders, renovators, and designers across BC. While we didn’t take home an award this year, being part of the event and seeing the level of work throughout the industry was something to be proud of.
A huge thank you to our clients, trade partners, suppliers, and team who make these projects possible. Congratulations to all of the winners and finalists — it was an honour to celebrate with you all.

Make your space a quiet retreat, designed for comfort and calm. A space where thougful renovations allow you to unwind.
Sometimes homeowners end up spending money fixing issues that should have been identified before purchase—problems left behind or overlooked during the buying process. Understanding the true condition of a home allows you to make a more informed decision and properly account for future costs. Having a clear framework for evaluation helps you move forward with confidence and avoid unnecessary surprises.
Things to consider:
• Unpermitted renovations
Additions, removed walls, or decks without permits can lead to issues and expensive corrections down the road.
• Illegal basement suites
Not all “mortgage helpers” are legal. Non-compliant suites can lead required upgrades, or tenant removal.
• Poly-B plumbing (1970s–1990s homes)
Known for failure over time, often resulting in leaks and full plumbing replacement.
• Older roofs (20–30+ years)
Roof replacement is a major cost many buyers underestimate.
• Moisture damage
Watch for stains, bubbling paint, musty smells, or swollen baseboards—especially in basements.
• Homes on a slope
Drainage issues, and foundation movement can create long-term structural concerns.
• Older homes (pre-1990)
Potential for asbestos in flooring, insulation, or drywall materials requiring removal.
Understanding these potential risks early, helps prevent unplanned expenses later.
Enjoy your home the way you want to—without unexpected surprises.
Living through a renovation is very different from planning one. With realistic expectations, clear priorities and thoughtful preparation, the process becomes far more manageable.
