The 70+members of TFM came together to act as a watchdog organization for every inch of the district in regards to zoning issues, proper governing, & other issues affecting the district. Toledo First Movement started in June 2020 when 25 vocal residents of Toledo shared their concerns on zoning issues in Punta Gorda town and Cattle Landing. There were major concerns on controversial developments m
ainly due to lack of zoning stipulations, and the obvious lack of monitoring on the part of the regulatory bodies. Following this lack of monitoring, there was a blatant disregard in responding to the people's questions by the regulatory bodies and the PG Town Council. John Gotz - Chair, Orlando Muschamp - Co-chair, Martine King - Secretary, Glen Logan - Treasurer, Darwin Blanco - Diaspora Representative, Wil Maheia - Environmental Representative. The TFM board fought to get stop orders, which were ignored with the exception of one of the developments. Several group meetings, trips to Belmopan, and attempts at meeting with the powers resulted in one of Belize's prominent attorneys assisting TFM in a pro bono fashion. The law implies that a suspect silent in the face of an accusation has tactically admitted the crime. Up to August 2020, the regulatory bodies have failed to simply answer the questions sent in a letter from the board - does silence mean consent? The board and the larger group will continue to fight and lobby for what is in best interest of the district as the name implies, Toledo First.
