BOSETU President Dr Winston Radikolo has reaffirmed the union’s independence, saying its historical solidarity with the Umbrella for Democratic Change will not compromise its responsibility to hold the government accountable.

“We stood shoulder to shoulder in the trenches, fighting for the rights, dignity and welfare of workers, even under the most difficult conditions,” Radikolo said.

He stressed that the union’s relationship with the government would not come at the expense of its principles.

“While our bond with you fosters a sense of fraternity, it will never lead to silence. We will not be silent when we feel your government is abusing its privilege.

“We will continue to fight for the rights of teachers and workers with the same vigour and zest ” he said.

In a year when the shine came off Botswana's diamonds and consumers across Southern Africa pulled back, Choppies Enterprises Limited did something that might seem counterintuitive: it kept opening doors.
Twenty-seven of them, to be precise.
The dual-listed grocer, a fixture of urban high streets and rural trading posts alike, reported that group retail sales climbed 7.9 percent to BWP9.82 billion in the year ended June 30, 2026, up from BWP9.11 billion a year earlier. Each week, roughly 2.3 million shoppers now move through its 314 stores across seven formats and three countries - a footprint the company expanded even as the macroeconomic weather turned against it.
