The Ministry of Water and Human Settlement appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to account for its performance during the 2022/2023 financial year.

Briefing the Committee, Acting Permanent Secretary Ms. Boikhutso Botlhole outlined the Ministry's key achievements and challenges. She reported that ongoing water, sanitation and housing projects have collectively generated employment for 3,670 people nationwide.

On land allocation, the Ministry allocated 54,630 residential plots in tribal areas as of March 2023 a notable increase compared to previous years. However, Ms. Botlhole acknowledged that the plot allocation programme continues to face obstacles, including limited availability of serviced and allocation-ready land, delays in surveying and planning approvals, and weak alignment across the land delivery value chain.

The Committee's examination of the Ministry's accounts forms part of its broader mandate to strengthen accountability, enhance transparency and ensure that public resources are utilised effectively for the benefit of all citizens.
