If there is one facility that breaks my heart in Botswana for its lack of redevelopment and upgrade to create is the Botswana Nationatioal Stadium designed by then Yugoslav Architect firm KMM Architects. Since its design, construction and completion in 1986, it has never had any major refurbishment for almost 40 years. FNB stadium in South Africa was refurbished for the World Cup 2010 for the marvel it is today. There has been many attemots to refurbish the stadium and the areas around it for many years..nothing has beared any fruit.

As an Architect myself, I stromgly feel that our National stadium deserves some to fill in the open areas, increase seating capacity to at least 35,000 and create as may kiosks as much as possible for SMME vendors. Re-Roofing is still an immediate priority there. Parking is also a nightmare at the stadium events. Its a doable with an estimated budget of P100m. Maybe we lease the facility to First National Bank as sponsors of the Botswana Premier League (BPL) for them to take the risk on the re-development and upgrade for a period of 25 years. They will recover the costs from rentals (Premier League games, tsadium rental for different events etc). They could rake in about P5m annually from stadium rentals.

Or why dont we use the design proposals for the Botswana AFCON 2027 bid for the re-development of the national stadium?
