You're Killing Your Shopify App If You Ignore These Essential Steps!
🚨 I built 11 apps in 2024, sold 7 apps and I can say you're sabotaging your own app’s potential! Here are three things you must do to grow your Shopify app business and retain happy users:
1. Segment Your Users for Better Insights
Every single user matters—whether they’re paying you or not. Why?
Negative reviews can hurt your business: Even free users have the power to leave damaging reviews.
Segmentation helps you understand your users: Track who is experiencing errors, which issues are most common, and how users interact with your app.
Real-world insights beat assumptions: Even if you’ve tested your app for months, only real users provide meaningful, actionable data.
By understanding your users, you can build better documentation and offer solutions that address real problems—not just what you think might be an issue.
2. Ask for Reviews Strategically
Reviews are the lifeblood of your app—they:
Improve your position in the Shopify App Store.
Attract new users by building trust and credibility.
Validate your app’s value to potential merchants.
💡 When to ask for reviews:
After resolving an issue for a user via support chat.
From long-term users who’ve seen real success with your app.
The key is timing—ask when your users are happiest and most engaged!
3. Track Your Data to Make Smart Decisions
You can’t grow your app if you’re flying blind. Here’s why data tracking is crucial:
Understand your audience: Are your users new merchants? Where are they located? What languages do they speak?
Improve your marketing: Knowing your users’ demographics helps you craft better ads and target the right people.
Without tracking, you’re relying on guesswork. And guesswork doesn’t scale.

In this issue, I will show you seven great ways on how to find and validate app ideas. And keep in mind, you can and should combine as many methods as possible:
I recently reached out to many people on Twitter. And about half of them said that they are either running are looking to start a Shopify app. And, even if you have an app already, you can increase your chances of success by launching another one.
So without further ado, here are seven great ways on how to find and validate app ideas.
Ask on Twitter
This might sound ridiculous at first, but I have seen people do this, and they actually got a great response. There are a lot of people who are toying with an app idea. But also they don’t have the time or skill to create it, and this is your opportunity!
Shopify Forums
The Shopify Forums is where merchants go when they look for help. This is a goldmine for finding problems for to solve.
Shopify Slack Channel
This one is a bit harder to find than the forums, but it is buzzing with activity. Follow the discussions, and you will find problems to solve in no time.
App Store
Yes, the App Store is a great resource to find problems to solve. You can look for apps that are “out of service”. These are apps that either are getting bad reviews or stopped getting new reviews. To make this easier, I have created a bookmarklet you can use the check-out apps faster. It will pull up the app history from SASI, a free service that monitors all public Shopify apps.
Facebook communities
There is no shortage in Facebook groups for Shopify merchants. And other than the Shopify forums, you can use them to validate your idea as well. How you do this? Before actually writing a single line of code, create a mockup of your app and see if this resonates. If it does you already have your first customers!
Do an internship at a Shopify merchant
A while ago, a computer science student approached me for an internship. While I was skeptical at first, he blew me away with his skill, and I was of course trying to give as much back as I could. So if you are new to e-commerce, this can actually be a great way to get an idea of what’s going on and find problems to solve
Local opportunities
It is not secret that Shopify wants to go global. If you are from outside North America, this means one thing. You have an unfair advantage over your competition.
So look into local services that are only used in your country. Maybe merchants would like to have them integrated with their store!
So these are some great ways to find and validate Shopify app ideas. That I wish I had known before starting an app. You can and should combine as many as you can before writing the first line of code.

Adobe Will Acquire Figma for $20 Billion.
"TLDRArt by Vijay Verma Adobe has announced it will acquire the collaborative design platform Figma for approximately $20 billion. Dylan Field and Evan Wallace began working on Figma in 2012, now the app is popular among designers and developers. The transaction is expected to close in 2023."
If you are unfamiliar with Figma. Figma is a vector graphics editor and prototyping tool. It is primarily web-based, with additional offline functionality enabled by desktop apps for macOS and Windows.
So why am I telling you about it today?
Figma is what you might call a web application. And according to Google, Figma's net worth is over $115 million in 2018. Then last year, in another fundraiser, it soared to $10 billion, now doubled by the deal. From Adobe. According to his LinkedIn,
The net worth already, it is the value of goods and money that a person or a company has, after its debts have been removed.
Adobe therefore buys it back based on the net worth. And it's the same thing for a shopify app.
In fact, if you have a shopify application which now brings you say less than $10k per month, it's not easy to resell it for $1 million. Sorry, but if you get there, then you're in luck. By cons from $ 20k, it becomes interesting to sell it for millions. In fact, what is interesting when you want to launch a shopify application project must be to work your net worth each time. The lines of code don't matter. What matters is the value you will bring to your users and your net worth. Because the ultimate stage of this business model. It is to manage to resell the box as a startup.
