Five Canadian provinces saw employment gains while the rest of the country held steady, according to the Stats-Can Labor Force Survey, and three industrial sectors benefited from significant increases.

Ontario led the way in employment gains in August. Ontario produced the bulk of Canadian job gains last month with an increase of 58,000 net new jobs in August, all in part-time work. Employment in Ontario was up 250,000 compared to August 2018, a year-over-year increase of 3.5 per cent.

Three of Canada’s biggest cities are among the 10 most livable in the world, according to the latest Economist Intelligence Unit Global Livability Index.Calgary, Alberta, was the highest-ranked Canadian city on the annual index, placing fifth out of the 140 cities surveyed.

The Government of New Brunswick is calling for a significant increase in immigration to the province over the next five years to address the economic and social challenges posed by its aging population.
