Of course, I feel deeply sorry for everyone who traveled a long way, who saved every last cent to be at this festival, and also for all the DJs who spent the whole year preparing for this event, including Q-dance and everyone who worked so hard to make Defqon.1 happen again.

Decisions like this are not made without a reason. This situation is terrible for everyone involved. No one wanted this to happen, but the safety of the people always comes first.

What makes me sad and shocked is how disrespectful some people behaved instead of supporting each other in such a difficult situation. You’re not the only ones who are suffering. Everyone is affected by this.

All we can do now is hope that, despite climate change, the extreme weather, and the huge losses, Defqon.1 will still be able to come back next year and create something this amazing again.

And to everyone who vandalized the festival after it was cancelled: I hope you’re never welcome back. You’re not part of the Defqon family.
