We’re proud to have printed NARA, the catalogue for Yosh*tomo Nara’s sold-out show at London’s Hayward Gallery, in close collaboration with Hayward Gallery Publishing and design studio Praline.

A gold-foiled linen hardcover, 264 pages, and over two hundred colour illustrations, with fluorescent-worthy colour accuracy and every rough edge, shadow and paper texture kept intentionally visible. The result: a book that went on to win the British Book Design & Production Award for Best Exhibition Catalogue.

A Plane of Singularity brings together an exceptional selection of works centred around a single motif, the coat, explored as object, portrait, and visual hypothesis.
Rather than simply drawn, the coats are built from paper itself, folded, cut, layered, and stitched into something more sculptural than illustration. At the heart of the book is James Castle, a self-taught artist who worked with reclaimed paper, soot from a wood stove, and handmade tools to build a deeply personal visual world. That same sensitivity carries into the printing itself, with a foil tip-in running across the linen cover and back again, turning the finishing into part of the work.
