UP - Performance in Perspective

Delen

UP - Performance in Perspective explores the perspective of, and perspectives on, the performing artist, within the broad field of performing arts: music, drama, dance, performance art, and related (inter/trans)disciplines. In doing so, we connect with, reflect on, and critically relate to the cultural, economic, historical, political, and social contexts within which art unfolds. For the 2024-26

For UP, we look for proposals connected to our current research focus:

We investigate how approaches to repertoire, interpretation, and performativity in (early) music can be critically rethought and reconfigured today. While reflecting on historically informed performance practice, the project questions established assumptions about the musical “work,” the role of the archive, and the position of the performer. By approaching (early) music as a dynamic assemblage, it shifts the focus from fixed works to fluid, relational, and process-oriented practices, in which notation, improvisation, and performer agency enter into new relationships.

Our current project focuses on extending these insights to other artistic and interdisciplinary contexts, as well as on the reciprocal transformations that emerge from this exchange. Interdisciplinary applications, including within drama and literature, and experiments with non-Western, oral, and improvisatory traditions broaden and deepen the perspective.
