A graduate in Economics from University of Dhaka and a PhD in Development Economics from the USA, Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury had more than twenty years of practical experience in Banking. He was the Chairman of Board of Directors and a sponsor Director of a leading private commercial bank as well as the Vice-Chairman and a sponsor Director of another private commercial bank. Dr. Chowdhury is an extensive traveler and a researcher by choice. His book Bangladesh in Perspective: the Political Economy of Corruption has been taught in different universities in the country as a textbook on governance & public policy. A visionary by nature, Dr. Chowdhury—currently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, the Apex body of the university—has been leading the university from the front towards its vision. A statement by Dr. Chowdhury resembles the core of the university’s business model: ”the sight of young, beautiful minds roaming around to acquire knowledge is a far more pleasant feeling than having trillion bucks in the bank account…we learn from our mistakes and step forward…complete customer care is our religion.”

In order to materialize the mission we pursue strategies including—but not limited to—the following:

(i) giving our students real world industrial exposure through industry-academia collaboration and actively engaging the alumni in that regard;

(ii) providing the students with various technological orientations that enhance their capabilities for thriving in the knowledge economy and social dynamism;

(iii) promoting co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to ensure comprehensive development of the students;

(iv) engaging the faculty members in active research as well as other pedagogic programs in order to harness their teaching and research potentials;

(v) maintaining ideal research & development facilities suitable for postgraduate and doctoral research as well as other development projects and initiatives; and

(vi) updating the curriculum and other requisites to accommodate the changing national priorities and global developments on a progressive basis. Our mission is to provide our prospective and current students with globally compatible tertiary education characterized by academic excellence in a range of subjects pertinent to the present and future social needs. In addition to academic requirements, we teach our students necessary lessons on moral values, ethics, manner & etiquette, self-respect, dignity, and patriotism, which together enable them to become eligible 21st Century citizens. We host a diverse, animated, and stimulating learning environment in which our students can realistically prepare themselves for pursuing their academic, personal, and career goals. By creating new insights through research and by sharing what we learn, we contribute to making the world a better place.
