Parliament's Role is Crucial for Ethnic Self-Autonomy
CNI News

The role of the parliament(Hluttaw) is the most crucial factor in achieving self-autonomy for the respective ethnic nationalities in Myanmar, U Li Paw Reh, Chairman of the Lisu National Development Party (Dulei Party), told CNI News.
He noted that if granting self-autonomy to the Shanni and other ethnic groups is being considered, there is hope for the Lisu ethnic people as well.
"I believe the Union government can effectively implement self-autonomy and development for the respective ethnic groups," U Li Paw Ye said. "The main key is the parliament. Right now, we have an elected government, elected members of parliament, and the parliaments themselves. Therefore, if self-autonomy is to be granted, I see the parliament's role as the most crucial one. If peace conferences are held, we intend to participate in the discussions whenever opportunity permits. We have specifically requested self-autonomy for our underdeveloped region. We believe that if we achieve self-autonomy, we will be able to implement regional, economic, and multi-sectoral development more effectively for the local populace."

Authorities in Bangladesh have heightened security measures following reports of the presence and movement of the newly formed armed group, the Khumi People Force (KPF), along sections of the BangladeshโMyanmar border in Bandarban's Ruma and Thanchi upazilas.
The KPF, believed to be the armed wing of the Khumi National Congress Party and based in Myanmar's Paletwa Township, Chin State, reportedly emerged in February this year. Recent reports indicate that the group has come under military pressure from both the Arakan Army (AA) and the Khumi National Army (KNA).
According to intelligence assessments cited by local media, some KPF members may have moved toward remote border areas adjacent to Bangladesh, allegedly seeking temporary shelter amid ongoing tensions in Myanmar.
The group's reported presence was first detected in mid-April near the BangladeshโIndiaโMyanmar tri-junction, commonly known as the Three Pillar area. Subsequent reports suggested sightings in several remote locations, including Tongbrai Bhulu Chand, Thandai, Kramchi Para, and Tindur Pau Para.
Security officials have also expressed concerns over alleged efforts to establish local coordination networks within border communities.
Bangladesh authorities have reiterated their strict zero-tolerance policy toward unauthorized armed activities within the country's territory. The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified surveillance, conducted operations in sensitive border areas, and strengthened temporary security outposts.
Officials are also considering repositioning border posts closer to the zero line to enhance monitoring capabilities and prevent any potential cross-border instability.
