গ্রামীণ কল্যাণ (Grameen Kalyan) সম্প্রতি সারাদেশে সুবিধাবঞ্চিত নারীদের জন্য সম্পূর্ণ বিনামূল্যে জরায়ুমুখ ও ক্লিনিক্যাল স্তন ক্যান্সারের স্ক্রিনিং প্রদানের একটি স্বাস্থ্যসেবা উদ্যোগ চালু করেছে। এ প্রকল্পের আওতায় সম্পূর্ণ বিনামূল্যে ২০ হাজার স্ক্রিনিং করা হবে।

গত ১৯ এপ্রিল শুরু হওয়া এই পাইলট প্রকল্পটি মূলত ৩০ থেকে ৬০ বছর বয়সী এবং ১০ বছরের বেশি সময় ধরে বিবাহিত নারীদের জন্য চালু করা হয়েছে, যার মাধ্যমে সুবিধাবঞ্চিত প্রান্তিক জনগোষ্ঠীর দোরগোড়ায় জীবন রক্ষাকারী প্রতিরোধমূলক স্বাস্থ্যসেবা পৌঁছে দেওয়া হচ্ছে।

গ্রামীণ কল্যাণের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা প্রফেসর মুহাম্মদ ইউনূস এই উদ্যোগকে স্বাগত জানিয়ে বলেন, ‘একজন মা হলেন তার পরিবারের প্রাণ, অথচ কেবল সচেতনতা ও সামর্থ্যের অভাবে জরায়ুমুখ ক্যান্সারের মতো নীরব ঘাতকের কারণে দেশে প্রতি বছর হাজারো পরিবার চরম মানসিক ও আর্থিক বিপর্যয়ের মুখে পড়ে। এই উদ্যোগটি নিশ্চিত করবে যে প্রান্তিক জনগোষ্ঠী তাদের দোরগোড়াতেই বিশ্বমানের অনকোলজিক্যাল (ক্যান্সার) সেবা পাবে।’

স্ক্রিনিং কার্যক্রমটি আন্তর্জাতিকভাবে স্বীকৃত চিকিৎসা প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোর সাথে কৌশলগত সহযোগিতার মাধ্যমে পরিচালিত হচ্ছে, যার মধ্যে রয়েছে অনকোলজি ক্লাব (বাংলাদেশ), দ্য ইলিক্টা ফাউন্ডেশন (সুইডেন) এবং গ্লোবাল হেলথ ক্যাটালিস্ট (যুক্তরাষ্ট্র)।

স্বনামধন্য ক্যান্সার বিশেষজ্ঞরা সরাসরি এই স্ক্রিনিং প্রক্রিয়ার সাথে যুক্ত আছেন, যাদের মধ্যে রয়েছেন: গাইনিকোলজিক্যাল অনকোলজি বিভাগের অধ্যাপক ডা. শাহানা পারভীন, সহকারী অধ্যাপক ডা. রুমানা আফরোজ, সহকারী অধ্যাপক ডা. ফারহানা হক, গাইনিকোলজিক্যাল অনকোলজি বিভাগের কনসালটেন্ট ডা. সুমিতা সরকার এবং গাইনিকোলজিক্যাল অনকোলজি বিশেষজ্ঞ ডা. সাদিয়া জাবিন খান।

গ্রামীণ কল্যাণ এই উদ্যোগের মাধ্যমে অত্যাধুনিক হিউম্যান প্যাপিলোমাভাইরাস (এইচপিভি) টেস্টিং চালু করেছে। এতে করে প্রতিষ্ঠানটি প্রাথমিক পর্যায়ে ক্যান্সার শনাক্তকরণে বেসরকারি খাতে অন্যতম সফল প্রতিষ্ঠান হিসেবে গড়ে উঠবে । বর্তমানে সাভার অঞ্চলের নির্দিষ্ট কেন্দ্রগুলোতে, যার মধ্যে রয়েছে সুয়াপুর হেলথ সেন্টার এবং মানিকগঞ্জের সিঙ্গাইরে অবস্থিত গ্রামীণ কল্যাণ রাজনগর হেলথ সেন্টার—এই স্ক্রিনিং সুবিধা পাওয়া যাচ্ছে।

এই কার্যক্রমকে সফল করতে গ্রামীণ কল্যাণ সাভারে একটি অত্যাধুনিক মলিকুলার ল্যাব স্থাপন করেছে, যেখানে ইনফ্লুয়েঞ্জা এ এবং বি, কোভিড-১৯, ক্ল্যামাইডিয়া ও গনোরিয়া, যক্ষ্মা (টিবি) এবং থ্যালাসেমিয়াসহ অন্যান্য উন্নত পিসিআর (PCR) পরীক্ষা অত্যন্ত সাশ্রয়ী মূল্যে প্রদান করা হচ্ছে।

গ্রামীণ কল্যাণের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক এ কে এম মঈনুদ্দিন চৌধুরী বলেন, “এই উদ্যোগের মাধ্যমে আমরা জীবনরক্ষাকারী, বিশ্বমানের ক্যানসার সেবা সরাসরি প্রান্তিক জনগোষ্ঠীর কাছে পৌঁছে দিচ্ছি। আমরা বাংলাদেশের প্রাথমিক, মাধ্যমিক ও তৃতীয় স্তরের স্বাস্থ্যসেবায় রূপান্তর আনতে প্রতিশ্রুতিবদ্ধ—যাতে সাশ্রয়ী ও মানসম্মত চিকিৎসা এবং সুস্থতা সেবা সমাজের তৃণমূল ও অনগ্রসর জনগোষ্ঠীর কাছে পৌঁছায়।”
প্রফেসর মুহাম্মদ ইউনূসের আদর্শ অনুসরণ করে ১৯৯৬ সালে সামাজিক ব্যবসা হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত গ্রামীণ কল্যাণ, বাংলাদেশের গ্রামীণ অঞ্চলের ৩৮টি জেলায় ১৫৩টি কমিউনিটি-বেজড স্বাস্থ্যকেন্দ্র পরিচালনা করছে। সংস্থাটি প্রতি বছর প্রায় ৭ লাখ ৫০ হাজার মানুষকে সমন্বিত চিকিৎসা সেবা প্রদান করে। এর পাশাপাশি ৫৮ লাখ বাড়িতে গিয়ে স্বাস্থ্য পরীক্ষা (ডোমিসিলিয়ারি হেলথ চেক), ১ লাখ ৩০ হাজার আল্ট্রাসাউন্ড স্ক্যান, ৫ লাখ প্যাথলজি টেস্ট এবং ৩০ হাজার ডাক্তারের পরামর্শ প্রদান করে।

‘ভিশন ২০৩০’-এর অধীনে, গ্রামীণ কল্যাণ দেশের ৬৪টি জেলায় ৩০০টি উন্নত প্রাথমিক স্বাস্থ্যসেবা কেন্দ্র এবং মডেল সেকেন্ডারি কেয়ার হাসপাতাল প্রতিষ্ঠার পরিকল্পনা করেছে, যার লক্ষ্য হলো বার্ষিক ১ কোটি ৫৬ লাখ বাড়িতে গিয়ে স্বাস্থ্য পরীক্ষার মাধ্যমে বছরে ১৫ লাখ মানুষকে সরাসরি চিকিৎসা সেবার আওতায় আনা।

গ্রামীণ হেলথ কেয়ার সার্ভিসেস লিমিটেড সম্প্রতি “ভিশন ২০৩০” রোডম্যাপের অধীনে নারী নেতৃত্বাধীন নতুন ভিশন সেন্টার চালু এবং সবকটি হাসপাতাল ও ভিশন সেন্টার সৌরবিদ্যুতে পরিচালনার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে।

বাংলাদেশে ন্যায়সঙ্গত, সাশ্রয়ী এবং পরিবেশবান্ধব পদ্ধতিতে চক্ষু চিকিৎসা সম্প্রসারণের জন্য কাজ করছে গ্রামীণ হেলথ কেয়ার সার্ভিসেস লিমিটেড (জিএইচএস)। এটি একটি অলাভজনক সামাজিক ব্যবসা প্রতিষ্ঠান, যা নোবেল জয়ী প্রফেসর মুহম্মদ ইউনূসের দর্শনের অনুসরণ করে ২০০৬ সালে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়েছে।

গ্রামীণ হেলথ কেয়ার সার্ভিসেস (জিএইচএস) এখন পর্যন্ত প্রায় ৩২ লাখ ৯০ হাজারের বেশি রোগীকে সেবা দিয়েছে, যার মধ্যে ২৬ শতাংশ বিনামূল্যে সেবা পেয়েছেন। এছাড়া ২ লাখেরও বেশি অস্ত্রোপচার সম্পন্ন হয়েছে। যার মধ্যে ৫১ শতাংশ সম্পন্ন হয়েছে সম্পূর্ণ বিনামূল্যে বা ভর্তুকিতে।

জিএইচএস-এর অধীনে বর্তমানে বগুড়া, বরিশাল, ঠাকুরগাঁও ও সাতক্ষীরায় চারটি চক্ষু হাসপাতাল পরিচালিত হচ্ছে। চলতি বছর মে মাসের মধ্যে রাজশাহীতে জিএইচএস-এর পঞ্চম চক্ষু হাসপাতাল চালু হওয়ার কথা রয়েছে। এই প্রকল্পের কাজ বর্তমানে সফলভাবে এগিয়ে চলছে।
চক্ষু হাসপাতালের পাশাপাশি দুর্গম অঞ্চলের মানুষের চিকিৎসার সুবিধার্থে দেশজুড়ে ২০টি ভিশন সেন্টার সুবিধাবঞ্চিত ও গ্রামীণ জনগোষ্ঠীর কাছে মানসম্মত চিকিৎসাসেবা পৌঁছে দিতে কাজ করছে।
এছাড়া, গ্রামীণ ক্যালেডোনিয়ান নার্সিং কলেজের মাধ্যমে জিএইচএস প্রশিক্ষিত নার্স তৈরি করে তার স্বাস্থ্যসেবা পরিসর সম্প্রসারণ করছে।

সম্প্রতি বোর্ড মিটিংয়ে ‘ভিশন ২০৩০’ এর অধীনে ২০২৬ সালের ডিসেম্বরের মধ্যে নারী-নেতৃত্বাধীন আটটি নতুন গ্রিন ভিশন সেন্টার স্থাপনের অনুমোদন দেওয়া হয়েছে।

বৈঠকের সিদ্ধান্ত অনুযায়ী, প্রফেসর মুহাম্মদ ইউনূসের “তিন শূন্য” নীতির সঙ্গে সামঞ্জস্য রেখে, জিএইচএস ২০২৬ সালের ডিসেম্বরের মধ্যে তাদের সব হাসপাতাল ও ভিশন সেন্টারকে সৌরবিদ্যুৎ-চালিত গ্রিন এনার্জি সিস্টেমে রূপান্তর করবে।

এই উদ্যোগের লক্ষ্য হলো নারীর ক্ষমতায়ন, জলবায়ু দায়বদ্ধতা এবং চিকিৎসাসেবার বিকেন্দ্রীকরণ, যাতে করে সুবিধাবঞ্চিত জনগোষ্ঠীর কাছে মানসম্মত চক্ষু সেবা পৌঁছে দেওয়া যায়।

বোর্ড মিটিংয়ে প্রফেসর ইউনূস বলেন, ‘চিকিৎসার জন্য মানুষকে যেন অসহায় অবস্থায় ঘুরতে না হয়, দূরে কোথাও যেতে না হয় সেটাই আমাদের লক্ষ্য। দরিদ্রতম মানুষের কাছেও যেন উন্নতমানের স্বাস্থ্যসেবা পৌঁছায় সেই লক্ষ্যেই আমাদের কাজ করতে হবে। সামাজিক ব্যবসা, গ্রিন এনার্জি এবং নারী নেতৃত্বকে সামনে রেখে আমরা এমন একটি ব্যবস্থা গড়ে তুলতে চাই যা শুধু সফল ও কার্যকর হবে না, একইসঙ্গে ন্যায়সঙ্গত এবং টেকসইও হবে।’

বগুড়ায় অবস্থিত গ্রামীণ জিসি চক্ষু হাসপাতাল ২০০৭ সালে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়। এটি উত্তরবঙ্গের একটি অন্যতম বৃহৎ এবং ব্যস্ততম চক্ষু সেবা কেন্দ্র। পাশাপাশি, এটি মেডিকেল ট্যুরিজম ও মেডিকেল ভ্যালু ট্রাভেলের ক্ষেত্রেও একটি পছন্দের গন্তব্যে পরিণত হয়েছে।

এ হাসপাতালে প্রতিদিন গড়ে উত্তরাঞ্চলের বিভিন্ন এলাকা থেকে আসা প্রায় ৪০০ থেকে ৫০০ জন রোগী নামমাত্র মূল্যে বা বিনা মূল্যে বহিঃবিভাগে চিকিৎসা নেন। বর্তমানে এই প্রতিষ্ঠানটির সেবার পরিধি আরও বাড়ানো হচ্ছে, যাতে ভবিষ্যতে প্রতিদিন এক হাজার রোগীকে উন্নত চিকিৎসা দেওয়া যায়।

Expansion of Grameen Health Care Services continues with eye care and nursing college

Health Care Services Limited (GHS) is accelerating its growth under the comprehensive Vision 2030 roadmap, launching women-led Green Vision Centers and converting all hospitals and Vision Centers to solar-powered operations.

Established in 2006 as a non-profit social business guided by the philosophy of Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, Grameen Health Care Services has worked to make eye care accessible to the poor and marginalized.

To date, GHS has served over 3.29 million patients, of whom 26% received services free of charge. More than 200,000 surgeries have been completed across GHS facilities, with 51% of these surgeries provided fully free or subsidized.

The organization currently operates four eye hospitals in Bogura, Barishal, Thakurgaon, and Satkhira. A fifth eye hospital in Rajshahi is scheduled to open in May 2026, with project implementation progressing successfully.

In addition to the eye care hospitals, there is a chain of 20 Vision Centers across the country, serving disadvantaged and rural populations with quality eye care.

Through its Grameen Caledonian College of Nursing - GCCN, GHS develops a pipeline of qualified nursing professionals to strengthen healthcare capacity within its expanding network.

At a recent board meeting, the board approved the "Vision 2030" roadmap which includes the establishment of eight new women-led Green Vision Centers by December 2026. These centers will be implemented with a dual focus on women's leadership and environmental sustainability, bringing decentralized, accessible eye care closer to underserved communities.

Aligned with Professor Muhammad Yunus's "Three Zero" vision, GHS is working to convert all of its existing hospitals and Vision Centers to solar-powered green energy systems by December 2026. The board emphasized that this green transition is central to GHS's mission to deliver sustainable, resilient health services while reducing the organization's carbon footprint.

The initiative is designed to empower women by placing them in leadership roles within the new Green Vision Centers, uphold climate responsibility through comprehensive solarization of GHS facilities, and decentralize healthcare delivery so that quality eye care reaches disadvantaged and remote communities without requiring long-distance travel.

"Our goal is that people should not have to wander helplessly or travel far for treatment," Professor Muhammad Yunus said at the recent board meeting. "We must work so that even the poorest get access to high-quality healthcare. Emphasizing social business, green energy, and women's leadership, we want to build a system that is not only effective and successful but also fair and sustainable."

Grameen Health Care Services’ activities

The Grameen GC Eye Hospital in Bogura, established in 2007, is one of the largest and busiest eye care centers in northern Bangladesh and has become a preferred destination for medical value travel. Through October 31, 2024, the hospital has treated approximately 1.24 million patients, of whom 319,842 received free treatment through weekly eye camps conducted in remote and underserved areas. The hospital has completed 78,456 eye procedures, including 65,799 cataract surgeries, and on average treats about 400–500 outpatients daily at nominal or no cost, with services being expanded to ultimately provide advanced care to up to 1,000 patients per day. Annually, the hospital performs roughly 10,000–12,000 successful cataract surgeries, many benefiting economically disadvantaged patients.

The Rupatali hospital in Barishal, established in May 2009, has served over 1,013,000 patients through October 31, 2024. Of these, 191,872 patients received free treatment through weekly eye camps in remote areas. Through October 2024, the hospital completed 49,936 eye surgeries, including 40,230 cataract operations, and provided free cataract surgeries to 12,694 poor and helpless patients.

Thakurgaon Grameen Eye Hospital, established in March 2013, has treated over 466,000 patients through October 31, 2024. Of these, 152,603 patients received free treatment through weekly eye camps in rural areas. During this period, the hospital completed 25,479 eye surgeries, including 19,639 cataract operations, and provided free cataract surgery to 3,247 poor and helpless patients.

Satkhira Grameen Eye Hospital, established in 2020, treated 151,340 patients through October 31, 2024. Of these, 72,049 patients received free treatment through weekly eye camps in rural areas. Through October 31, 2024, the hospital completed 6,357 eye surgeries, including 4,952 cataract operations, and provided free cataract surgery to 1,889 poor and helpless patients.

GHS’s fifth eye hospital in Rajshahi is scheduled to open in May 2026; the board noted that the Rajshahi project is progressing successfully and will enhance GHS’s capacity to deliver quality eye care in the region.

Through Vision 2030, GHS reaffirms its commitment to combining social business principles, gender empowerment and environmental sustainability to scale impact across Bangladesh. The women-led Green Vision Centers and the solarization of facilities are expected to strengthen service delivery, reduce operational costs, and ensure resilient, climate-friendly healthcare access for vulnerable populations.

The 16th Social Business Day 2026 will be organized by the Yunus Centre in collaboration with the Grameen Organizations, bringing together the global social business community for two days of dialogue, ideas, and collective action.

This year's theme, "Social Business: The Language of Peace in a Fractured World," speaks to a defining question of our time: in a world marked by conflict, deepening inequality, and eroding trust, what role can social business play in rebuilding what is broken?

Social business, as envisioned by Professor Muhammad Yunus, is not simply an economic model. It is a shared language, one that transcends borders, ideologies, and divides, and points toward a world where business serves people rather than the other way around.

As we also celebrate 50 Years of Grameen and 20 Years of the Nobel Peace Prize of Grameen Bank and Professor Muhammad Yunus, this year's gathering carries the weight of a legacy and the urgency of now.
