Dr. Abbas Uddin Shiyak, an Assistant Professor of Dyes and Chemical Engineering at Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) and Consultant at Reed Consultancy, has been recognized as one of the Top 10 winners of the Global Change Award 2025 in London.

His visionary project, the Decarbonization Lab for Textile Process Innovation, is dedicated to revolutionizing sustainable practices in the textile industry by introducing low-carbon techniques for dyeing, finishing, and material treatment. The lab serves as a dedicated R&D space, aiming to replace outdated methods with environmentally friendly alternatives.

The Global Change Award, backed by the H&M Foundation, is often referred to as the "Nobel Prize of the fashion industry", supporting bold, early-stage innovations that have the potential to decarbonize fashion. This year, 476 ideas from 69 countries were submitted, with the Top 10 winners selected by an expert panel.

Blockchain is playing the "game-changer" rule of supply chain management for businesses both large and little. Companies can now have full transparency of all the products they buy, sell, store, etc. This ensures the general record for the authenticity of materials, the journey from manufacturer to wholesalers, suppliers to distributors and retailers, and so on. Global fashion giant Burberry and IBM interns are working together to develop a prototype blockchain-based protocol, This technology would allow Burberry customers to register their desired products alongside viewing the history and data about the environmental and human impact of the item. The IBM Eternal Blue interns worked alongside Burberryโ€™s digital experts for roughly 3 months to develop the prototype. The protocol is termed โ€˜Voyageโ€™ and has successfully been integrated within the present Burberry download app as an effort to determine if their customers have the interest to find out more about the availability chains of clothes before buying. Customers also are ready to register selected garments on the blockchain with corresponding serial numbers. There are many headlines about the poor conditions or improper payment of the workers for high-street retailers over the years. But things are changing gradually by introducing blockchain within the industry can assist in highlighting concerns, monitoring, and improving employee welfare. this might even be implemented through the transparency of pay or hours worked accounted for by using the blockchain. By recording all steps of the provision chain on the blockchain, we are able to prevent unnecessary costs yet as improve customer satisfaction, and also items are going to be less likely to be defective by the time they reach the customer, meaning that quality assurance will be publicly observed on the blockchain.

In the case of the eco-conscious shoppers among us, the blockchain adds a compelling value proposition by which all the eco-friendly claims made by retailers will be digitally verified, so one can know that if an item is truly good for the environment and factory workers or not.

Having open-source electronic records of products will make it easier for both consumers and makers to keep up records of product warranties, guarantees, and verifiable records of when and the way these facilities are used.No more eager to hang on to receipts for fridge or washer for years on, people will soon be ready to go browsing to an account and think about the identical information around your purchase because of the retailer and manufacturer.

Besides tracking physical products on the blockchain, consumers can now see when and the way their data is being employed. When one's data is entered onto the blockchain, one can stay on top of things of where and whom they're going to give access to their information. It is an enormous concern nowadays since many big names like Facebook and Google face increasing regulatory pressure around how consumer data is obtained and the way it's used and sold. Consumers are often unaware of what happens with their data and to whom their data is given over to such companies. These actions can often leave people prone to cyber-attacks and fraud.

Due to a shared database system provided by a blockchain-focused SCM system, every single operation which will ever occur during a supply chain is recorded within the blockchain for everybody to determine and verify all transaction information as a result everyone is forced to be answerable for their actions. Traditional supply chains are absolutely critical for the general well-being of fashion industries with big data and tiresome analytics to be done. Since this system of the availability chain is outdated and requires a major reboot thatโ€™s where blockchain comes in. Blockchain is believed by many to be the following historic period for the foremost accurate data transparency for all the transactions in an exceedingly supply chain ensuring the best style of security. Introducing blockchain technology collaborated with IoT supply chain management can get an enormous boost within the textile sector.
