USMC P-56 Utility Shirt (1950–1964)

Introduced in 1950-the P-56 Utility Shirt marked the U.S. Marine Corps’ transition from WWII-era herringbone twill uniforms to the more durable OG-107 cotton sateen fabric. Designed for field use, it featured a concealed button front, dual chest pockets, and the distinctive “USMC” stencil with the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor emblem.

Worn by Marines during the late 1950s and the early years of the Vietnam War, the P-56 bridged two generations of military uniforms. Its simple, functional design embodied the Corps’ emphasis on practicality and durability, while its olive-green sateen fabric developed a unique character through years of service.
