INSTITUTE FOR LIBRARY AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT is shortly and notably known as ILIM that is a name of historical milestone, because it is the first educational institution of library and information science, established in Bangladesh. Furthermore, ILIM was approved by both Bangladesh Government and Bangladesh National University indisputably. This renowned educational institution was founded in
1996 by Mr. Shamsuzzaman, present director and principal of ILIM. The main purpose of this institution is to produce well-trained, skillful, and experienced workers for the demanding sectors of library and information science in conformity with the perspectives of current social and economic conditions in Bangladesh. The classes of ILIM are always conducted by the skilled, experienced, and well-known teachers of Bangladesh through their yearly lesson plans. So, the plans have been presented below in a nutshell:
(1) In the classroom, the lessons are conducted by the teachers through instruction, lecture, and demonstration processes all the time. Moreover, a variety of assignments are often given to the learners in order that they can develop their own thought and creativity. (2) According to the units of syllabus, the lecture topics are always determined before the main lectures of the teachers. Besides, if the normal teaching progress gets hampered by unexpected reasons, the learners will get the facilities of participating extra classes. (3) For the practical classes, the individual lessons are given to the learners after dividing them into different small groups. In addition, the various problems are always solved by means of practices in the practical classes. (4) Having divided the learners as interns into various small groups, they are sent to the different established and qualified libraries of Dhaka City for fifteen days so that they can gain the useful knowledge easily and practically. (5) In the classroom, after finishing every particular lesson, the all learners are to sit for tutorial examinations compulsorily. After that, the achieved marks of the learners out of five are sent to Bangladesh National University in order to add these marks to the marks of final exams. (6) In ILIM, there are the counseling facilities, provided by the teachers for the weak learners outside of the class. In such a way, the weak learners become able to get clear ideas about any particular lesson. (7) The study tour for the learners is organized by ILIM every year. More to the point, the yearly magazine of ILIM titled “Joti” is published every year. In this magazine, an assortment of poems, short stories, articles, written by both teachers and learners are published. In the end, from 1996 to present, as a famous educational institution of Bangladesh, ILIM is still walking continuously in its pathway with a lot of successes under the proficient guidance of Bangladesh National University.
